Taxes on VideoAsk purchases

Tax laws can be confusing, especially since they vary greatly between countries. If you're unsure about taxes and what will be included on your invoice, this article will provide a breakdown of the details for each country where taxes are applicable.

VideoAsk pricing and taxes

All our prices are tax-exclusive. This means taxes will be added as a separate line item on your invoice. If you don’t see your billing country or region listed in this article, VideoAsk doesn't add taxes to your purchase price. In this case, it’s your responsibility as a consumer or business to pay any applicable taxes to your local government, as needed.

Some organizations and businesses might qualify for an exemption from paying sales tax. If you're currently receiving a non-profit discount you will not be automatically exempt from paying sales tax, and you’ll need to complete the exemption process based on your location. This is explained below.

Tax exemption

Some organizations and businesses may not be required to pay sales tax. If you think your organization qualifies for tax-exempt status, you should apply for tax exemption before upgrading or renewing your VideoAsk account. You'll notice that your exemption request is linked to Typeform. This is because VideoAsk is a Typeform product.

You have 60 days from the date of purchase to apply for tax exemption.

Once your exemption status has been approved, future purchases will be exempt from tax where applicable.

Invoices

Your invoices, which can be accessed in the Plan & Billing section of your Account & Org settings, contain the applicable tax for your billing location, the price of your plan, and the total amount paid.

United States

VideoAsk is required to charge sales tax in some US states where we are registered, to comply with local laws. If your billing address is located in an area listed below, you'll notice the tax on your VideoAsk invoice starting on the effective date. This tax applies to all VideoAsk products.

Here are the US states where VideoAsk must collect taxes:

Tax rate

Local tax rates vary according to your state, county, and city. It’s important to keep your billing details up to date so you’re charged the correct tax rate.

VideoAsk may not assess taxes in some locations or on some services. If you want to get an idea of how much sales tax you might have to pay, try using an online sales tax calculator.

Australia

To comply with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws in Australia, with an effective date of January 1, 2024, VideoAsk is required to add the GST to the price of your subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases, when applicable.

The applicable GST rate depends on your country's current regulations. You can find the current GST rates applicable in Australia here.

If you're a GST-registered business in Australia, you can add your Goods and Services Tax number to get your invoice zero-rated. This will activate the reverse charge mechanism meaning that GST won’t be included on your invoices, but you’ll have to account for the GST on your purchases to VideoAsk when filing your GST returns.

Adding a GST number to your Billing details

To exclude GST from your purchase, you must provide your GST number before making the payment. You cannot apply a GST number retroactively to an invoice you’ve already paid.

Canada

To comply with sales tax laws in Canada, with an effective date of January 1, 2024, VideoAsk is required to add Goods and Services Tax (GST), Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), Provincial Sales Tax (PST), and Quebec Sales Tax (QST), where applicable and depending on the specific province or territory involved.

If you're a GST-registered business in Canada, you can add a GST number to get your invoice zero-rated. This activates the reverse charge mechanism, excluding GST from your invoices. However, you are responsible for accounting for the GST on your purchases from VideoAsk when filing your GST returns.

If your billing address is in one of the following provinces, Provincial Sales Tax (PST) will be applied, irrespective of a valid GST number. However, you can deduct this amount from your GST return:

  • BC, British Columbia
  • MB, Manitoba
  • SK, Saskatchewan

European Union

To comply with tax laws in the European Union (EU), VideoAsk has to add the Value Added Tax (VAT) to the price of your subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases, where applicable.

The VAT rate applied is determined by the billing country associated with your account. You can find the VAT rates per country here.

If you're a VAT-registered business located in the EU, and you provide your VAT registration number, you can take advantage of the reverse charge mechanism. By doing so, the VAT won't be included on your invoices, but you’ll need to account for the VAT on your purchases to VideoAsk when filing your VAT returns.

Note: If your billing address is located in Spain (with the exception of the Canary Islands), you'll be charged VAT regardless of whether you add a VAT number, as VideoAsk is a provider based in Spain.

Adding a VAT Number to your billing details

If you want to exclude VAT from your purchase, you must provide your VAT number before making a payment. You cannot apply a VAT number retroactively to an invoice you’ve already paid.

If you're a VAT-registered business in the EU, you can add a VAT registration number to benefit from the reverse charge mechanism on your purchase in the Plan & Billing area in your VideoAsk account.

If the VAT registration number you provided is invalid, you can refer to the correct VAT ID formats for EU member states on the European Commission website and validate your VAT registration number on VIES. After validating your number, try adding it to your billing details again.

India

To comply with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws in India, with an effective date of April 1st, 2023, VideoAsk is required to add the GST to the price of your subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases, when applicable.

The applicable GST rate depends on your country's current regulations. You can find the current GST rates applicable in your country here.

If you're a GST-registered business in India, you can add a Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) to get your invoice zero-rated. This will activate the reverse charge mechanism meaning that GST won’t be included on your invoices, but you’ll have to account for the GST on your purchases to VideoAsk when filing your GST returns.

Adding a GSTIN to your Billing details

If you want to exclude GST from your purchase, you must provide your Goods and Services Tax Identification Number (GSTIN) before making the payment. You cannot apply a GSTIN retroactively to an invoice you’ve already paid.

If you're a GST-registered business in India, you can add a GSTIN to benefit from the reverse charge mechanism on your purchase.

If your GSTIN is invalid, please refer to the correct GSTIN formats and validate it via the services.gst.gov.in website. After validating your number, try adding it again.

Singapore

To comply with the Goods and Services Tax (GST) laws in Singapore, with an effective date of April 1, 2024, VideoAsk is required to add the GST to the price of your subscriptions, renewals, and other purchases, when applicable.
