Customize interface text and create custom languages

Want to spice up the text of your videoask's interface? Can’t find your own language or dying to ask a question in Klingon? You can translate or edit the VideoAsk interface with text customization.

We currently support 13 interface languages within VideoAsk. If your language is not on the list below - or you just want to change the text prompts - you can create a custom language so all the videoask prompts fit your specific use case.

Note: By default all videoasks will be set to English, unless you have created your own default videoask settings.

Currently you can set your videoask language to one of the following options:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • Catalan
  • French
  • Portuguese (Portugal)
  • Portuguese (Brazil)
  • German
  • Dutch
  • Italian
  • Russian
  • Turkish
  • Swedish

When you select one of these languages, it will automatically change the interface text and prompts within your videoask to the chosen language. Note, however, that this will not affect your caption and transcription language.

Important: For transcriptions to work you will need to set the correct language before collecting video/audio responses. Learn how to set the caption language.

The base language will give you a starting point to customize the interface text. If you're creating an entirely new translation, you may want to choose the language closest to yours.

Each field has a character limit, so make sure to keep things short and sweet. You’ll see the number used and maximum number of characters allowed on the right side of each text field.

Pro tip: if you're not doing a full translation and just want to customize a few of the prompts, use the built in browser search (ie command + F on Macs) to quickly find the right prompt.

Now that you've created your own language, you can use it for any videoask in your account. Just your custom language from the dropdown list of languages.

When you do, the language will be applied to your videoask. Which means when people open my awesome Hungarian videoask, they‚Äôll see this ūü§ó:
